Internships in Shanghai

OVERVIEW

Summer 2013 Program Dates: June 7th to August 2nd, 2013*

The greatest representation of Shanghai lies in its skyline. Rather than the classic angular architecture of a typical urban silhouette, Shanghai’s massive multi-dimensional collage is like nothing you have ever seen. Modern skyscrapers such as the Park Hyatt Hotel, the tallest building in the world, stand next to traditional Shanghai Shikumen structures, creating a diverse and stunning picture against the night.

Shanghai is regarded for its international trade, cultural innovations, and advancements in science and technology. Because it was chosen in 1990 as the city to exemplify Chinese reform, it offers China it’s best. Shanghai represents a cultural assimilation of the West into the Eastern tradition to the extent that there is even a synagogue in the center of the city. The Bund is another expression of this cultural blend. The Bund is a series of fifty-two buildings structured in Gothic, Romanesque and Baroque architecture situated close by to the quintessential Chinese gardens such as the Yuyuan Garden and ancient pagodas.

Home to Asia’s most up and coming fashion, art, technology, and innovation, Shanghai seamlessly intertwines creativity with business. It is China’s wealthiest, most highly populated, and most industrious city. It is often called the “showpiece” of China’s mainland. Containing major historical importance ever since its beginnings during the Song dynasty, this “city above the sea” has cultivated in epic legacy, one that is leading today’s global community into greatness.

“My summer in Shanghai was unbelievable! I can’t thank EiAbroad enough for providing me with such a unique and fulfilling summer. It was so interesting to be truly immersed in such a different lifestyle. Besides physically navigating myself around unfamiliar terrain, I went on my own personal journey. I have learned so much about myself and about living on my own.” – Lindsay (University of Tennessee)
