THE EXPERIENCE

Work

A true European hub, centrally located and just a short distance to cities such as London, Madrid, Paris and Rome, Barcelona is an ideal place to conduct international business. Spain’s golden metropolis, Barcelona is one of the most progressive, modern, and inspiring cities in Europe. It is a hub of manufacturing and high-tech industry, but also of innovations in design. Work days in Barcelona are broken up with a “breakfast break” at 11:00 AM and a “lunch break” at around 2:00 P.M. Even through this “siesta,” the work ethic is vigorous and highly productive.  EiAbroad interns in Barcelona can expect work arrangements in various industries including marketing, finance, hospitality, fashion, engineering and many more.

Play

No Pasa Nada? No worries. The often-used Spanish phrase screams of the playful and harmonious culture of Catalonia. Walk among the magnificent and eclectic architecture of Antonio Gaudi in Park Guell and listen to the street musicians of Las Ramblas. Or enjoy a sunset drink along Barceloneta beach while meeting newfound friends in one of Barrio Gotticos’ many vibrant tapas restaurants.

In addition to the wonders of internships in Barcelona, interns will be guided on excursions throughout Barcelona with the opportunity to attend optional excursions to other destinations in Spain such as Valencia, and Costa Brava, the hidden gem in northern Catalonia where visitors frequent for sun, sand, and sangria. Built around small towns such as Cadaques located close to the French boarder and the foothills of the Pyrenees, it has been a frequented destination of artistic influencers such as Salvador Dali, Joan Miro and Pablo Picasso.

“The Experiences International program experience means many things to me. For example, it means making new life-long friends, gaining new and valuable skills for work and life, forming new networks, seeing the world, and experiencing a new culture and way of life.” -Alex (University of Virginia)
